Love Local Spotlight: Meet Chimney Fire Coffee

As part of our Love Local campaign, we’re celebrating the people and businesses behind some of our favourite products.

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Chimney Fire Coffee, an independent coffee roaster based in Dorking. Not only do we stock their range in our Farm Shop, but they also create our exclusive Estate Blend – the coffee we proudly serve in our Cafés and sell for customers to enjoy at home.

We spoke with Founder, Dan Webber, about the story behind Chimney Fire Coffee, from the beginnings to the principles that continue to shape the business today.

Meet Chimney Fire

Tell us a little about Chimney Fire Coffee…

Chimney Fire Coffee is an independent, B Corp certified specialty coffee roastery based at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking.

We source coffees directly from producers around the world and roast them here in Surrey, creating everything from rich, approachable blends to distinctive single-origin coffees. Our aim is to make exceptional coffee enjoyable and accessible, while building long-term relationships and sourcing in a way that is responsible, transparent and fair.

We supply homes, cafés and businesses across Surrey and beyond, but our local partnerships remain a particularly important part of what we do.

From Garden Shed to Growing Roastery

How did the business begin?

Chimney Fire Coffee was founded after several years working in coffee and cocoa traceability, including time spent in Ghana, where I saw first-hand how complex global supply chains can be and how little of the final value in coffee often reaches the people who grow it.

Those experiences inspired me to start Chimney Fire from a garden shed, roasting coffee on a small scale with the aim of building a better kind of coffee business: one focused on quality, transparency and the people behind the coffee.

Since then, Chimney Fire has grown into an independent, B Corp-certified roastery based at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking, supplying homes, workplaces, cafés and hospitality partners across the UK.

That early background in traceability still shapes how we work today. We build long-term producer relationships, buy selected coffees directly and focus on transparent pricing, consistent quality and making great coffee easy to enjoy.

Coffee with Purpose

Tell us about your B-Corp Certification!

Being a certified B Corporation means that Chimney Fire Coffee has been independently assessed against high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

The assessment looks at the whole business, including how we source our coffee, support our team, work with suppliers, reduce our environmental impact and contribute to our local community.

We recently completed our B Corp recertification with a score of 110.7, making us one of the highest-scoring B Corp-certified coffee roasters in the UK. For us, certification is not simply a badge; it provides a framework for continuing to improve the way we operate and ensuring the business has a positive impact as it grows.

The Art of Roasting

What goes into creating a great coffee?

Great coffee starts with sourcing high-quality beans, but roasting is where their potential is brought to life.

Every coffee behaves differently, so we carefully develop individual roast profiles to highlight the flavours and characteristics of each origin. We then continually taste and assess the coffee to ensure it remains consistent from one roast to the next.

A great coffee should be full of flavour, balanced and enjoyable, whether it is being prepared by a professional barista or brewed at home.

The Joy of the Craft

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

There are so many different elements to coffee, from meeting producers and selecting new coffees to developing roast profiles and seeing the finished coffee being enjoyed by customers.

One of the most rewarding parts is creating something that becomes part of people’s everyday routines. It is particularly satisfying to work with local partners such as Priory Farm and develop a coffee that reflects their business and their customers.

Why Local Matters

Why is supporting local business important?

Supporting local businesses helps create strong, distinctive communities. Local businesses employ local people, collaborate with one another and keep more value within the local economy.

There is also a greater sense of connection and accountability. When businesses are based close to one another, relationships can develop beyond a simple supplier transaction. We can visit, listen to feedback, solve problems together and create products that are genuinely tailored to the customer.

Our partnership with Priory Farm is a great example of two independent Surrey businesses working together to offer something distinctive and locally rooted.

Our Estate Blend

One of the highlights of our partnership with Chimney Fire Coffee is our exclusive Estate Blend.

Created especially for us, this blend has been developed to deliver a smooth, balanced cup that works perfectly whether enjoyed in our cafés or brewed at home.

How would you describe its flavour profile?

Carefully blended from select Latin American beans and roasted to a medium-dark perfection, our all new Priory Farm Estate Coffee blend offers notes of rich dark chocolate, sweet caramel, and a delicate nutty finish.

A Shared Passion

Chimney Fire Coffee is a brilliant example of what makes local partnerships so special, shared values, close collaboration and a dedication to quality that customers can truly taste.

From their thoughtful sourcing to their expertly crafted roasts, every cup tells a story of care and connection.

Next time you’re visiting, why not enjoy a cup and taste the collaboration for yourself?
